PLE Summer Course
The Algarve is the southern most region of Portugal, famous for its mild sunny climate, the 200km coastline boasts splendid beaches hidden among sandstone cliffs and sand dunes, bathed by calm and warm waters. The Algarve region has lots more to offer visitors, for example: the Ria Formosa Natural Park, the protected costal landscapes of Costa Vicentina, the estuary of the River Guadiana (which is part of the Natural Reserve of Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António), the hills of the Barrocal (which are rich in history and tradition), and are a place of outstanding natural beauty.

The Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PFL) Summer Course is divided in different proficiency levels in Portuguese equivalent to 5 ECTS accordingly to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System.
All students will receive 57 hours of tuition focusing on Portuguese language and additional modules (20 hours in total) on Portuguese Film, Music, Culture and Literature.
Classes are held from Monday to Friday (9h30 to 12h30). School calendar includes guided tours and other cultural activities offering the opportunity to discover cultural features from Portugal and the Algarve. All cultural activities and modules will take place in the afternoon.
PFL SUMMER COURSE 2019 APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN ONLY TO A1 AND B1 LEVELS.
COMMON REFERENCE LEVELS
A1: For absolute beginners;
A2: For students with previous basic knowledge of the Portuguese language;
B1: For students who can understand the main points of clear standard input on everyday conversations;
B2: For students who can understand the main ideas of complex text on both concrete and abstract topics;
C1: For students who can understand a wide range of demanding, longer clauses, and recognize implicit meaning;
C2: For students who can understand with ease virtually everything heard or read.
Levels may vary according to the number of applicants.
A detailed programme will be made known at the beginning of classes. Most school outings are free of charge. However, an additional payment may be required.
University of Algarve teaching staff is responsible for PFL – Summer classes. All teachers proceed from the Arts and Humanities Department and are highly trained and experienced in PFL teaching.

HOW TO APPLY?
All accepted applicants need to:
- Fill in the registration form (available online);
- Pay fee for the programme (full fee by 24 June);
- Send bank transfer receipt (by email);
- Send passport photo (by email).
- 415 Euros (enrolment+tuition fee+insurance) or
- 25 Euros (enrolment) to be paid upon enrolment + 390 Euros (tuition fee+insurance) to be paid until 24 june

CANCELLATIONS AND DEADLINES
Registration and enrolment deadline: 24 June.
Unjustified cancellations are not eligible for a refund.
All applicants requiring visas are recommended not to pay any fees for the programme prior to the conclusion of the process.
